In 2020 Business Events Industry Aotearoa (BEIA) and Regional Tourism Organisations New Zealand (RTONZ) contracted Fresh Info to manage the Business Events Data Programme (BEDP). Fresh Info are experienced in the field of data collection and market research services with extensive experience in the tourism industry. As the membership organisation representing Business Events, BEIA know how essential this programme is. Funded by BEIA, RTONZ and Tourism New Zealand (TNZ) the programme involves the collection of information from Business Event venues, delegates and organisers to provide valuable data on the Business Events sector in New Zealand.
The BE Data Programme was established by BEIA to measure and report Business Events activity and spend in New Zealand. Information is collected by Fresh Info from participating venues throughout New Zealand. All the information is collated to estimate the size of the Business Events market, and each region’s share of that market. Organisations will have access to solid regional and national data to assist in making good commercial investments in Business Events which is critical to the industry. The data will enable good decision-making that the entire industry can benefit from. It is vital that this industry has robust data and can measure the huge impact of Business Events in order to capture the legacy and plan for the future.
As a participant in the programme, you will be notified as soon as new data is available so that you can access market share reports as well as regional and national Business Events statistics. It is vitally important, and now more so than ever, that we have access to good quality data thus enabling greater advocacy within the Business Events sector.
Any venue that hosts 12 or more Business Events per year with a minimum of 50 guests at each event, can participate in the programme. A Business Event includes a meeting, conference, convention, corporate retreat, awards dinner, incentive, tradeshow or exhibition. Public events and social gatherings such as weddings, dance parties, church services, concerts, sports events and consumer events are not included. Venues that are BEIA Members are all invited to be participants of the programme. We highly recommend any venue hosting Business Events considers BEIA Membership. Please contact us to open up a range of expertise and marketing opportunities available within the BE sector.

From 2009 to 2019 the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment (MBIE) operated the Business Events Research Programme which was funded in partnership with Regional Convention Bureaux. There were two surveys: the Business Events Activity Survey and the Business Events Delegate Survey.
The Business Events Activity Survey monitored and benchmarked the performance of more than 300 professional conferencing and meeting venues in New Zealand from 2009 to 2019.
The Business Events Delegate Survey collected expenditure and length of stay data from multi-day business event delegates through an online survey from 2009 to 2019.
